Sussex v Team Middlesex U20s
|Date:||28th February 2016|
|Competition:||U20s County Shield|
|Result:||Sussex 46, Middlesex 5|
On a bright but windy and freezing day on the south coast, Middlesex kicked off into the wind at Brighton. Sussex applied the early pressure, testing a good Middlesex defence.
Eventually after 11 minutes, Sussex went wide and scored their first try, missing the conversion. Straight from the restart Sussex attacked strongly and two minutes later crossed the line again.
Middlesex appeared to rally and after 20 minutes, the forwards took one against the head on the Sussex 22 and winger Daley Aremu crossed in the corner.
That seemed to galvanise Sussex and the intensity of their attacking play increased penetrating a tiring Middlesex defence crossing the line four more time before the break.
By half time, Sussex had notched up 34 to Middlesex’s 5
The second half produced a very disjointed game with many injuries and scrum resets. Middlesex played a much tighter team game and came close to scoring on several occasions. But it was again Sussex who had the success scoring twice more before the final whistle bringing the final score to 46 – 5.
“The Middlesex players would have learnt much about playing in such conditions and coming together as a representative team for the first time” summed up team manager Chris Ralph after the game.
