GMS Player Registration and Playing up approval

Posted on 27 August 2024

Dear Middlesex Clubs,
We are writing to make you aware of an enhancement in GMS, relating to assessing and registering 17-year-olds to play adult rugby.
Clubs will now be able to register players in GMS, only once Middlesex CB has indicated the club has been approved through the online Smartsheet approval system. Without this approval as per Regulation 15, and its confirmation in GMS, clubs will be unable to register any 17-year-olds as adult players.
You will likely be aware that Adult Player Registration is changing. This will mean adult players register themselves to play rugby at their club. In the case of 17-year-olds playing adult rugby, the process will not change, and clubs will continue to register these players on their behalf.
Please note that Age Grade Registration is a separate process and still required for all players.
How you currently submit the online application form and paperwork to us is also not changing. You should continue to do this in the usual way – firstly to get approval as a club to play 17-year-olds in adult rugby, and then through an application for each individual player. These approvals must be in place before any 17-year-old plays adult rugby.
For a guide on how to register approved 17-year-olds in GMS as adult players at your club, please view a ‘how-to’ video here.
