Middlesex County RFU response to recent announcements

Posted on 2 November 2020

Most of you will have seen the RFU announcement cancelling the Adult Competitive Leagues which was sent on Friday, followed closely by the Prime Minister’s address on Saturday evening.  The County Management Board has not yet formulated a full response, but we thought it important that we let you know what we are doing.  As we have a round of Group meetings starting this evening, there will be opportunity to ask further questions at those.  Bear in mind that we may not yet have the answers.

We know how important rugby is to all of you.  For your physical and mental wellbeing. We share your frustration and disappointment that the current circumstances prevent us from playing the Game.  We will continue do everything we can to help you provide rugby activity in whatever form we are allowed, in ways that are compliant with guidance, and safe.

That means organising in conjunction with the RFU, competitions, local clusters, Ready4Rugby, and other formats when we are permitted to return.  It will be for men, women and age-grade rugby and will be optional.  The RFU announcement does not mean the end of rugby for the season, far from it. We know that work is underway to devise competitions and law variations beyond what we have today.

An extra edition of the County Newsletter will be published later this week. It will contain more information and we will continue working on “Bringing people together to enjoy rugby”.

On behalf of the Management Board

Stay safe
