This weekend brought another fantastic weekend of mini rugby, with over 1500 players basking in the Middlesex sun at Ruislip for the U10 festival and at Wasps ground at Twyford Avenue for the U9 festival. Over 35 clubs from across the county participated across the two venues on Sunday, with over 3000 supporters making both festivals a great spectacle.

“The Ruislip festival was extremely well organised with Bob Harrison and his team of volunteers doing a tremendous job to ensure everything ran smoothly and on time. The hundreds of boys and girls taking part and their parents and coaches thoroughly enjoyed the day, ” commented an exhausted Michael Barnes, after handing out medals to very boy and girl who took part – irrespective of whether they won or lost.

Meanwhile, at Wasps FC has over 100 qualified coaches (as well as parent coaches) lead by coaching coordinator Jok Dunbar, with refereeing overseen at the club by Dave Garvey, ensuring that all players are able to participate in a safe environment.  Middlesex chairman Peter Baveystock presided over the medal presentations at Twyford Avenue.

Mini and youth rugby is thriving with numbers up since the World Cup in all age groups. Middlesex minis chairman and Wasps board member Waheed Aslam commented “The reputation of the Middlesex minis festivals continues to grow. We have had approaches from clubs in other counties wanting to participate in our festivals”.

The festivals conclude next weekend with the U12s gathering back at Wasps for their Championship finals day. Meanwhile, the U11s festival will be hosted at Vallis Way by Ealing Trailfinders.
