Middlesex County RFU Leadership Academy – applications open

Middlesex County RFU is excited to announce the relaunch of our Leadership Academy, designed to develop and empower the next generation of club leaders.

Club Secretaries have been asked to nominate candidates to attend the Leadership Academy.  If you would like to apply for a place on the Leadership Academy programme, please contact your Club Secretary.

About the Middlesex RFU Leadership Academy:

This 18-month programme, commencing in September 2025, provides a unique opportunity for people to gain the knowledge, skills, and confidence to become an effective club leader. We’re committed to investing in individuals who are passionate about the future of our sport and dedicated to strengthening our clubs.

 Who is it for?

This programme is ideal for Middlesex RFU club members who:

  • Have recently taken on or are about to take on a non-playing role (e.g., committee member, administrator, volunteer coordinator)
  • Have the potential to take on a leadership position within their club
  • Are passionate about the development and sustainability of rugby in Middlesex
  • Are committed to personal and professional growth.

 What attendees will gain:

  • Professional qualification: We’ve partnered with a leading training organisation to deliver a module leadership and management principles, successful completion of which will result in award of the ILM Level 3 Certificate in Leadership and Management, a valuable professional qualification.
  • Comprehensive club management skills: The programme will provide a deep dive into the essentials of running a successful rugby club:
    • Governance and legal responsibilities
    • Financial management and budgeting
    • Effective communication and marketing strategies
    • Club, coach, and player development pathways.
  • An understanding of the rugby landscape: Attendees will gain invaluable insights into the roles and strategies of the RFU and Middlesex County RFU, and learn how to leverage their support for your club.
  • Practical project experience: Attendees will undertake a real-world project for your club, giving them practical hands-on experience and benefitting your club.
  • Dedicated Mentorship: Each attendee will receive personalized guidance and support from an experienced mentor who will help them navigate the programme and achieve their leadership goals.
  • Networking and Collaboration: Attendees will be able to build a strong network, by connecting with like-minded individuals from across the county.
  • Flexible Learning: Sessions will be held every other month, combining in-person and online formats to accommodate busy schedules.

 Programme Details:

  • Duration: 18 months (September 2025 – [Approx. March 2027])
  • Frequency: Sessions every other month
  • Format: Combination of online and in-person sessions
  • Location: Various locations across Middlesex and online platforms.
